Tommie Smith Fights the Power in 68′, Gets Honored By Puma with “Tommie Smith x Puma” Kicks.

You’ve probably seen the memorably 68′ Olympics black and white image, of Tommie Smith raising his fist along side bronze medal winner John Carlos. Well their premeditated fist-raising act (protesting against the injustices against African Americans at the time) was deemed controversial, and Smith and Carlos were immediately suspended and banned from the Olympic Village. Puma has since acknowledged Tommie’s strife by dropped the “Tommie Smith x Puma Suede” kicks and the “Tommie Smith x Puma Clyde” kicks. StreetThing also mentions that the shoes revolve around sprinter Tommie Smith’s achievements including a 200 m time of 19.83 seconds and both styles reference the location, the 1968 Olympics.
