The June 7th, 1996 match up between Oscar De La Hoya and the reigning WBC Light Welterweight Champion Julio César Chávez, was once hailed “Ultimate Glory”. Hoya was the underdog fighting Julio César “The Lion of Culiacan” Chávez at the time, who was more than 10 years into professional boxing. But all that experience ultimately meant nothing. During the first minute of the round 1 a simple jab by De La Hoya opened an already existent wound above Chávez left eye, and eventually so much blood poured out that by round 4, the fight was stopped and the WBC Light Welterweight Title handed to De La Hoya.

The unique kicks are made from premium leather covered entirely in elephant skin texture, and the whole sneaker, along with its laces, were dyed in red, a remembrance to how much Chavez was leaking that night. But if you lose your title that way, the least they can do is eventually get you some honorary kicks right? Look for these in select Nike boutiques this week.
